    The Mists of Erebus
    ~The Journey begins with you~



    The Land of Erebus is populated by humans who are born with special abilities, referred to as Affinities. These Affinities are unique to each person, manifesting itself in different way from person to person. Despite this uniqueness, there are seven general classifications that Affinities fall under: Nature, Spirits, Aquatics, Fire, Earth, Wind, and Electric.

    ~Affinity: Nature~




    The Affinities that fall under the Nature Category have to do with… nature. Duh. This includes powers over plants and animals. Examples: talking to/understanding animals or plants; abilities control animals and/or plants, etc.

    ~Affinity: Spirits~




    The Spirit Category of the Affinities is easily the most versatile of the Affinities, covering a broad spectrum of powers, including but not limited to: telepathy, teleportation, telekinesis, ability to commune with/control spirits, etc.

    ~Affinity: Aquatics~




    Aquatics Affinities have to do with water and the creatures of the sea. Abilities include the abilities to breathe underwater, commune/control animals of the water, control direction of water, healing with water, etc.

    ~Affinity: Fire~




    Fire Affinities are often described as the most destructive, but fire can also be used for creative reasons. Abilities include fire resistance or immunity, ability to see in the future within the flames, ability to ‘listen’ to fire, and of course the ability to control fire, etc.

    ~Affinity: Earth~




    Earth Affinities deal with the rocks and soil rather than the living things upon the planet. Abilities include increased sensitivity to vibrations, ability to control rocks and soil, ability to summon objects/minerals from deep within the earth.

    ~Affinity: Wind~




    Wind Affinities include not just abilities over the air, but over the weather as well, crossing over with aquatics and electricity since some can summon rainstorms and thunderstorms. Some Wind Users have been able to control the air around them to such a high degree that they can actually fly through the air without the help of machines.

    ~Affinity: Electric~




    Electric Affinities are the second-most destructive Affinities, with abilities over lightning and electricity. They are dangerous abilities, especially the high-powered, high-trained electric users, because certain electric users have figured out how to sense and control the electric impulses within living things, almost giving them ability over life and death.

    The Land of Erebus is in DANGER!




    The Land of Erebus is split into nine territories, each territory ruled over by an Affinity User so powerful that they are known as god-likes. Their Affinities are not over any of the seven normal Affinities, but rather over the Temporal Powers: Time, Space, Chaos, Earth, Sky, Ideals, Logic, Life, and Death. Each god-like is given purity of mind and heart by The Creator. This purity is protected by an Affinity Crystal given to each god-like and protected with their life. The lands are ruled over by these nine rulers:

    -Time: Lord Chronis
    -Space: Lady Abyss
    -Chaos: Lord Void
    -Earth: Lady Gaia
    -Sky: Lady Aeriss
    -Ideals: Lord Lixang
    -Logic: Lord Wyra
    -Life: Lady Serenity
    -Death: Lady Freya

    This roleplay follows the story of YOUR characters. They live in the realm of Lord Chronis, whose Affinity Crystal was corrupted by a dark entity wishing to control the god-like, which destroyed Chronis’ purity. The realm of Chronis is thrown into chaos as Chronis begins making demands and generally being a tyrant, allowing darkness to fall upon the realm. It is your decision whether to help the Resistance, searching for a way to purify Lord Chronis’ Affinity Crystal, or to join Lord Chronis’ elite soldiers, known as the Marked Ones, to uphold Lord Chronis’ rule and try to prevent the Resistance from reaching their goal!

    Age: 22
    Affinity: Spirit - Illusions: Roy is capable of making illusions of whatever he wishes appear anywhere closeby. These illusions are completely intangible and do not produce any sounds or smells. If Roy stops focussing on them for too long, they simply disappear.

    Affiliation: Resistance
    Personality: Roy is a person who by many would be described as a social butterfly. Charming and elegant he's the kind of person who's the center of attention at many a gathering. But while he has a strong sense of justice, Roy isn't exactly a fearless person. In fact he prefers to avoid fighting whereever possible, reyling on words and trickery to solve his problems.
    History: Working in a theater, Roy has used his abilities of illusion to entertain many a customer. Recently however Lord Chronis became corrupted, providing quite a bit of a political stir. This led to a variety of satirical and critical plays from the theater Roy worked at. Obviously Lord Chronis was not to pleased with something like this and had the theater shut down and the actors imprisoned. But when his henchmen came, Roy wasn't there. Using his abilities, he had managed to escape, joining the Resistance to try and stop the mad Lord.

    Character Name: Doesn't have a real name, but is often called Shark
    Gender: female
    Age: unknown, appears to be 15-18
    Affinity: Aquatic: On a simple scale, she can manipulate water, as well as use it for healing. She mainly converses with sea creatures and builds up more and more friends, from sea horses to whales. When in water, her speed increases as it is her strong point, and often inhales water to spew back out and use above water. She can also alter parts when in water, such as produce gills, or change her arms to huge pectoral fins, and so on. It's said that this is the beginning of being able to fully transform into sea creatures, which she cannot do yet, so she only mimics some kinds.
    Appearance: From a glance out of water, she can look like a normal person. Her hair is always wet, sometimes with barnacles, sea stars, and anemone flowers covering it. She wears a flexible wetsuit, since normal clothes underwater grow uncomfortable. When on land, only then is she pressured into wearing ripped Jean shorts and a tee shirt. She wears a ponytail then, too. She has sea green eyes and blonde hair.
    Affiliation: She is a light member of the Resistance, as she doesn't do much for them. She mainly spends time elsewhere rather than crusading for victory.
    Personality: Her curiosity often gets the best of her, so she is more often exploring than staying in one place. She is the type who's happy when she wants to be and serious only when she needs to be. Even though she uses her powers whenever she wants to, she often pretends to be who's she's not, contributing to scientific studies of fish and sea creatures anonymously, so no scientists know she can simply talk to fish to find the answers. She is active and determined and wishes to reach her maximum power potential. She is always open to new ideas, unless it has something to do with the ocean, which she knows everything about.
    History: She grew up in the ocean, thus her powers and learning developed early. She was raised by Giant Sea Serpents and went to schools of mermaids and into their towns. (Lol. Mermaids are always funny.) Even though she grew up with all these creatures, a fascination for them never died down. What was much stronger than that, however, was her curiosity for the world above. When she first explored the surface, it was nothing like she ever imagined. It was bright and hot and dry. Taking a long time, for moments at a time to get used to it, she recovered the ability to breathe air and immediately began to explore the "new" world. Over the course of years, she caught onto style and law of the land places, and brought back information about it back home. She seldom met another person like herself, but she knew it was possible to find one out there.

    For some reason, every time I edit my post, the colors go away so I'm going to make some clarifying remarks here.

    Communing with animals is reserved for Nature and Aquatic Affinities, and Aquatic Affinities can only understand water animals.

    Besides humans being able to control elements, Erebus is exactly like Earth, meaning that there are no magical creatures such as dragons, mermaids, sea serpents, phoenixes, etc.

    'Spirits' that Spirit users can control include Poltergeists, Imps, and Demons, not the souls of the departed.

    Poltergeist: type of invisible spirit that can talk in a language understood by all humans (meaning a non-spirit user could understand them, but not necessarily control them). This type of spirit is invisible and intangible, but when it wants to, it can touch physical objects. Poltergeists like making a lot of noise and making a nuisance of themselves, as they are mischievous spirits.

    Imps: these spirits are small, physical manifestations of fire. They have the appearance and height of a small child, but when they are angered, they become enveloped in fire and cause wanton destruction, like a child having a temper tantrum. They can be useful for spies and sneaking around, however, and some unscrupulous Spirit users enslave these spirits to be their servants.

    Demons: Physical and/or Spiritual manifestations of Sins: Evil, Greed, Gluttony, Violence, Jealousy, etc. They are the most powerful forms of spirits, and only a very confident and powerful Spirit user dares to summon or try to control a Demon, as any slip-up would be to lose one's soul and forfeit one's life to the demon. Thankfully, demons can only be summoned by willful sacrifice of human life. There are a select few sects of Spirit Users who worship demons and spend a lot of time trying to summon demons, only to be thwarted by the Guardians of Life -who are another Sect of Spirit Users seeking to prevent demons from entering Erebus.

    Character Name: Zephyr
    Gender: Male
    Age: 21
    Affinity:His affinity is Wind, which he learned at a young age via an accident (explained in histroy). Overall, his unique area of expertise would be the solidification of air itself into many different forms.
    Appearance: Caim is a tall, somewhat skinny individual, standing at about 6 ft. 4. His hair is of black coloration, which pretty much matches the majority of his clothes, the majority of which are all of the same colour, from the simple pair of black trousers and he wears, to the undone jacket he wears over the top of his grey shirt, and last of all to the black pair of fingerless gloves that he wears. his eyes are a greenish blue in coloration.
    Affiliation: Neither at this moment in time. Likely to be recruited to the dark ones though.
    Personality: On he surface, Zephyr is a calm, collected individual who doesn't like to speak more than neccessary. usually, he lacks any form of kindness when dealing with other living beings, viewing them as a distraction, a meaningless annoyance who constantly get in the way. For the most part, he also seems to just straight up not care about all of the chaos being wraught by Chronis, he views it as basically not being his problem.

    Behind all of this though, he can be a surprisingly kind individual, making his outer shell of not caring be identified as a facade... he truly does worry about the past repeating himself, so he prefers to try and keep others away fo avoid this.
    History: Zephyr orriginally came from a large town within the territory controlled by the God-Like of the Sky, Lady Aeriss. Ever since he was young, he'd always been a target for being picked on, being viewed as a weakling for lacking any form of abilities, for years this went on and on.

    Eventually, when everyone else seemed to be slowly gaining their powers, it became worse, people began using their own abilities to mess with him even more... needless to say, it'd gone too far. After a while, at the age of eleven, Zephyr... well... he snapped. He finally actually tried to defend himself from those who kept focusing on him, but it didn't turn out as he expected. His affinity finally came out, resonating with all the anger and hate he'd locked up inside... turning into the form of a large hurricane. Try as people might, that hatred kept it alive... until there was nothing left... his rage led to destruction, something he hadn't particularly wanted.

    Because of this, he stayed, not that he had much choice due to how much the sudden outburst had drained him. He'd found himself left unconcious within the ruins, and when he eventually did awaken, he saw the chaos that he'd wraught... it sickened him. He wasn't aware that those in the town had escaped with their lives... he'd thought they'd all died.

    Due to having nowhere to go, he stayed, trying to come to terms with what he'd done. Not long later he was found by another wielder of the Wind Affinity. It wasn't particularly hard to realise that it was Zephyr who'd caused this, but that made the man curious. He took Zephyr away, trained him, taught him how to use his power, not for good... but to defend himself... something Zephyr sorely needed. He kept at it for the next ten years, and then merely left... not to be heard of until now.

    Gender: Female
    Age: 17
    Affiliation: Neutral (Will most likely join the resistance)
    Affinity: Wind - The base of Mavis' powers comes from her ability to communicate with the wind and all her subsequent abilities are formed from their guidance.

    • Whispers of the Wind - Mavis has the unique ability to hear and understand what the wind says. The breeze both speaks to her and carries the words of other. As a result, there is no keeping verbal secrets from her. She can also sense things from further away, experiencing sensations such as touch and smell through the wind as well as hearing.
    • Flight - Having such a bond with the wind, the skies allow her to float and thus 'fly' using their power when she wishes to.
    • Direct Manipulation - Mavis can directly manipulate the winds around her, causing condensed whirling mists or widespread storms (though the latter would tire her out considerably). She can also condense wind around her limbs to make physical attacks more offensive.
    • Weather Control - As Mavis can control winds, creating turbulence or slipstreams when she wishes, she can also redirect clouds and the like, giving her small amounts of control over the weather.
    • Breeze Blades - One of the only truly frightening ways in which Mavis can manipulate the wind, she can solidify it so that it acts like a devastatingly sharp blade, either as one large blade or multiple smaller ones.


    Personality:
    Mavis is a very positive individual, always looking on the bright side of things and trying to help others do the same. She hates to see others sad, or cursing their own existence and so in such a situation will do everything in her power to change that. Mavis is hard working and doesn't mind manual labour, even volunteering to work for free when an employer isn't very well off.

    As a result of being raised by the wind, Mavis is very intuitive and perceptive to things, similar to how the breezes are. She is intelligent, but her upbringing also means that she doesn't always appreciate or react correctly to social cues, having spent less time around actual people than most her age. Some might also describe her as rather naive, as she hasn't been exposed to the atrocities that humans can cause, having lived a rather idealistic life alongside her adopted parent and friend, the wind.

    History:
    Mavis was born into a loving family, her parents both caring for her very much. They had always wanted a child and had tried for years but to no avail, Mavis being their little miracle. They named their daughter after the old name for the Song Thrush, a bird whose cheerful calls would bring joy to them each morning. However, her parents' elation at this miracle would not last, as great illness was cast upon the village in which they lived nearly a year or so later. The illness took the lives of both Mavis' parents and majority of the small, nondescript village; Mavis herself only surviving due to a chance genetic mutation that gave her immunity to the disease.

    Alone and afraid, the young Mavis remained in the lonely village for a day and a half, her cries unheard as those who were not already dead had fled the village in the hopes that they would not succumb to the illness. Owing to her affinity for the element of wind, the breeze took pity on her and began to speak to her, helping her as a parent might. The wind taught her right from wrong, what food was good and what things would poison her. The wind even taught her basic language, though it would not be until years later that she would properly adjust to English and not the native whistles of the wind.

    As she grew up, the wind became more of a friend to Mavis than a parent, experiencing things alongside her and helping her to grow in a way that a parent normally couldn't. The wind accompanied her on her first journey into another town, helping her translate and communicate with these people as she had no prior experience. As time went on, Mavis learned clear English and by her early teens she was known in multiple small towns for being a cheerful, but hard worker. She would find work wherever she could, earning money to pay for food and shelter so that she would no longer have to live off of the land.

    Growing up, the wind also taught Mavis multiple ways in which to use her affinity for the wind in order to manipulate it, giving her a way to both protect herself when it mattered most, and help others when they were in need. Her breeze blades in combination with her ability to manipulate the wind have come in rather handy for harvesting large amounts of wheat crop in a short amount of time for example.

    As she travelled, following the wind and where her whims would take her, Mavis gained experiences from living in almost all of the realms, some for shorter periods than others. Most recently she has entered the realm of Lord Chronis, the wind having kept her away from the area for the past few years due to being unsure if it was entirely safe as a result of Chronis's corruption. However, now that she has reached the age of 17, the wind has deemed that she is responsible enough to handle herself and so explained to her the situation in the realm.

    As was part of her nature, Mavis immediately wanted to try and help, but currently is unsure how to go about doing so. Having been advised by the wind's whispers, she searches for members of the resistance, hoping to lend a hand in the bid for restoring Chronis's purity.

    Other:

    • Tiflah-Rih is rough arabic for wind child or child wind. Since Mavis doesn't know her own last name this is the name the wind gave her and I hoped that the arabic would reflect the difference in the wind's language when compared to English.

    Mew- if you decide you want to join, please edit your bio. Erebus does not have magical creatures. Also, I dislike the transformation ability. It seems too uber, for one thing, and also seems more like a power that a Spirit user would have rather than an aquatics user.

    Since there are not a lot of you interested, I'll be placing my own character in, as well.


    Character Name: Matthew Noir
    Gender: Male
    Age: 30
    Affinity: Spirit
    ~Summoner: summons spirits to do his bidding (poltergeists and occasionally imps)
    ~Teleportation: can teleport himself and any objects on him short distances; about 500 ft from him in any direction. Tires him greatly, increasing depending on the distance.
    ~Telekinesis: Can lift objects with his mind, but if he could not physically lift them then he could not lift them with his mind. This also tires him as if he had lifted it physically.

    Affiliation: Marked One (one of the four Leaders appointed by Chronis to maintain order and ranks)
    Personality: On the outside, Matthew is a hard, almost cruel man. He doesn't tolerate fools well, and has little patience for incompetence. He is loyal to the core, though, and he will never lie, even to his enemies because of his own personal code of honor. Though he has a fearsome reputation, he also has a kind side that only his most personal friends see.
    History:
    Matthew was born into a broken family. His parents never got along, and he was their only child. They fought over how to raise him constantly, and when he was five years old, his father murdered his mother in a drunken rage. Matthew ran away from home that night. He ran until he collapsed from exhaustion, and soon became sick from cold and lack of food.
    In his desperation for food, he accidentally summoned a creature from the spirit world: a poltergeist by the name of Phantom. Since Matthew summoned it with his powers, Phantom was bound to follow Matthew's orders, and stole food and medicine from a nearby town to fix him up. Matthew soon regained his health and he realized that Spirit must be his Affinity. He released Phantom back into the Spirit World, but would often call on it at later times, due to their history together. Phantom originally resented Matthew for forcing it to do his bidding, but eventually they fell into a strange sort of camaraderie, where Matthew would call upon Phantom to do his bidding and then allow the poltergeist to do as it wished in the real world until he called upon it again.
    Matthew taught himself a lot what he knows about his own Spirit powers by observing others with the Spirit Affinity. He never settled down, traveling from town to town and keeping on the edges of society. He has traveled through most of the territories, and has a working knowledge of many things. He doesn't know everything about anything but he knows a little something about practically everything.
    He was contacted by Lord Chronis at the beginning of Chronis' decline of purity. Chronis wanted to hire him as a mercenary to lead an elite group meant to protect the Lord from outside threats. Matthew was honored by the request and responded affirmatively. He quickly grew to be one of Lord Chronis' most trusted advisors. He noticed Lord Chronis' slow corruption, and it worried him, because not only did he have the trust of the Lord, but they had also become friends.
    Despite his worries about Chronis' purity, he kept following the Lord's orders because he thinks that he can do his best to control the damage and protect Chronis from himself. He believes that the Resistance are going to try and kill Chronis, which is why he has been brutal with any Resistance members captured. He is well-known throughout the Territory of Time as a cruel, hard man loyal only to Lord Chronis. He doesn't mind these labels because it gives him an advantage to have his enemies fear him.

    Affiliation: Resistance
    Personality: Sean is very kind, but can be quite destructive when angered. He is optimistic, never letting anything bring him down. His strengths are his intelligence and his care for all creatures. His weaknesses are his temper and his impulsive behavior.
    History: Sean came from a family that made many veterinarians and farmers, and the Affinity of Nature was in the blood of his family for generations. He was the second in his family to have been born with abilities only related to animals, the first being his great grandmother. As he got older, he spent more time with the farm animals and more time in the woods. The forest he spent his time in was near his home, and was used as a place to hone his skills.

    When he was 14, he had witnessed his father's death. His father was in a pickle with some of the Marked Ones. They heard he was part of the Resistance, and they got into an argument with led to a fight. Then one of them used their abilities to burn his father to death. He was so angry he was thinking of going out to them and killing them, but knew he wasn't ready. He sensed there was a rabbit nearby, and mimicked its speed and sped off to the house.

    He told his mother and his older sibling, who sped off, him coming up right behind them. The soldiers were gone by the time they got there, but the body was still there, burn marks in fatal areas. They held a funeral and buried him in the family grave yard. That moment forth, Sean worked tirelessly on honing his abilities to join the Resistance. He did it to take down Lord Chronis and to avenge his father, promising him at his grave that he will not rest until Lord Chronis falls, or he dies like his father, fighting.

    Howdy! I'm proposing we use Titanpad to discuss stuff like individual character plots and the extent of a character's abilities. Or what pets they can have etc etc, so I took the liberty of making one. It is my hope that some of us, (Hopefully Haley since she's the RP creator) can use it to confirm or deny whether character plots are able to work in the world that she has created for the RP and this way we can work on things and figure out how they might affect other characters at the same time and stuff ^-^

    Anyways it might be useful for multiple things so let's give it a shot! :D
